Hi everyone! I can't wait to get to know all of you and make music with you. I'm really excited to see what we can accomplish together this year in all the orchestras at LC. It's going to be a really, fun rewarding year.
Unfortunately, I will to miss the first day of school, because I'm going to a conducting symposium, where I'll be conducting a professional orchestra in Sophia, Bulgaria. I will have some activities for you to do on the first day of class (including making videos for me to watch on my flight home that weekend), but the first day you'll need your instrument at school is on Monday, August 8.
In order to get ready for the start of the school year, I'll be spending a ton of time in the next week at LC. If any of you have a hour or more free between 10:00am and 4:00pm on Friday, July 22, I'd love some help! You can come help with filing music (or possibly reorganizing the orchestra music library), getting parts ready for the start of school, assigning lockers, redecorating the orchestra room, helping me move into my office, checking instruments for anything that still needs to be repaired, changing cello and bass strings, cleaning out cabinets, etc. Even if you don't have time to help, I'd love to meet as many of you as possible, so please feel free to stop by to introduce yourself!
I'll see you all soon. Hopefully, you've all been playing over the summer...if not, please take some time to play your instrument over the next couple weeks before school starts. When I taught high school previously, I used to give an in person playing test over music assigned in the summer on the first day of school. Obviously, we aren't doing anything like that this year, but since I don't know any of you (or your playing) yet, I am going to have everyone make about a 30 second recording of yourselves playing anything you want (almost) due the second week of school, so you might start thinking about what you'd like to play for me. After hearing you play, I can structure our curriculum around exactly what everyone needs in each group. This should be fun, btw...nothing to stress about. You'll play something you like that isn't too difficult for you.
Hopefully, I'll see a lot of you on Friday.
